Reflecting on Labour Day in British Columbia

Victoria (August 31,2017) – Chilliwack MLA and Labour Critic, John Martin, has issued the following statement in recognition of Labour Day, observed this year on September 4:

“As we approach the September long weekend it’s important to reflect on the origins of this national holiday that has, unofficially, come to mark the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year.

“The celebration of Labour Day provides us with an opportunity and give thanks to the industrious British Columbians and labour pioneers who built this great province and fought for the working environments and protections that we all appreciate today.

“With record unemployment rates, record job creation, and a diverse and growing economy, we as British Columbian workers have a lot to be thankful for.

“On behalf of the BC Liberal Caucus this Labour Day, I want to express my sincerest appreciation for all the remarkable work British Columbians do each and every day. Together, I know we can build on our proud legacy and make British Columbia and even greater place in which to work and call home.
