MLA Marc Dalton statement – Moosehide anti-violence campaign

Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton speaks at the Legislature in Victoria on the third annual Moosehide anti-violence campaign by Aboriginal men.

“The moosehide campaign is a grass-roots gathering of men across Canada who are concerned about the disproportionate number of victims who are aboriginal women. They are more than three times as likely as non-aboriginal women to experience violence,” the MLA told the Legislative Assembly Feb. 13, 2014.

As an Aboriginal Canadian myself, I couldn’t agree more with the objectives of the moosehide campaign. I’m pleased that our government is committed to taking action, including a recently launched provincial domestic violence plan to help to make B.C. a safer place for women, children and anyone affected by domestic violence. Today it’s an honour to participate with men across our nation, to fast, pray and stand up for the safety and security of aboriginal women and children.” [Source: Hansard]
