KITIMAT (July 26, 2019) – Ellis Ross, BC Liberal MLA for Skeena and Opposition Critic for LNG issued the following statement on the National Energy Board’s (NEB) determination that the Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project does not fall within its jurisdiction and is property regulated by the provincial government:
“Now that the National Energy Board has made it clear the Coastal GasLink Pipeline falls within provincial jurisdiction, it’s time for John Horgan and his party to stand up for hard-working British Columbians and support the expansion of LNG projects in B.C.
“John Horgan’s own hand-picked Ministers such as George Heyman and Doug Donaldson, who have actively embraced anti-pipeline activism, need to put their personal beliefs aside and commit to B.C workers and our industry partners that the NDP will get out of the way of progress and allow our energy sector to succeed and prosper.”
“Our energy sector provides high-paying jobs that B.C. families rely on. We produce energy more efficiently than any other place in the world.
“If John Horgan and his junior partner Andrew Weaver refuse to support our energy sector, we will experience job losses and carbon leakage to other jurisdictions with far less climate regulation than we have – something that’s not good for B.C. and not good for the planet.”
