BC Liberal Statement on National Indigenous Peoples Day

VICTORIA (June 21, 2019) – BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson and Skeena MLA Ellis Ross released the following statement today for National Indigenous Peoples Day:

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour and recognize the culture, contributions, and history of all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people of Canada.

This day was first celebrated in 1996 and since then we continue to reflect and appreciate Indigenous peoples’ contributions to British Columbia and Canada.

We proudly celebrate the unique culture, heritage, and achievements of all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people.

As we celebrate, we must also acknowledge the history of Canada’s relationships with First Nations and pledge to continue working together to build a better future for everyone.

Working on stronger nation-to-nation partnerships and creating economic opportunities are powerful steps on the path towards repairing those relationships.

This is a journey that we must all take together in order to achieve true equality and prosperity for everyone.
