VICTORIA (October 21, 2019) – Leader of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following joint statement with BC Liberal Small Business Critic MLA Coralee Oakes today for BC Small Business Week:
“Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of local economies across British Columbia, providing employment and important goods and services to our communities. Every year, we recognize their great contributions to British Columbia by celebrating Small Business Week in October.
“Government has an important role to play in promoting entrepreneurship, investing in community growth and densification, and enabling small and medium-sized businesses to flourish and provide more employment opportunities. Government should always seek to encourage a climate for investment, entrepreneurship, and competitive marketplaces.
“Over one million British Columbians work in the small business sector and the BC Liberal Caucus encourages everyone to demonstrate their support by shopping local and sharing their favourite small businesses on social media using #ShopSmallBiz.
“By showing your support for local small business you are not only helping to promote local businesses and their employees, but you are also supporting the economic health and well-being of these communities. We encourage all British Columbians to join us this week in supporting and celebrating the small businesses across B.C.”
