VANCOUVER (December 9, 2019) – The BC Liberals are calling on John Horgan and the NDP to provide leadership and avail themselves of all options to prevent the SkyTrain strike planned for three days starting tomorrow.
“In less than 24 hours, commuters and transit users throughout the Lower Mainland are going to face an unprecedented level of disruption if the SkyTrain strike action is not averted,” said MLA John Martin, BC Liberal Critic for Labour. “John Horgan and the NDP have an obligation to those people to provide help and use the many tools available to government to help avoid a full-blown strike.”
Hundreds of thousands of commuters are expected to be impacted by tomorrow’s SkyTrain shutdown, including university students currently in the final exam period.
“People without cars here in Surrey stand to be completely cut off from Vancouver,” added Stephanie Cadieux, MLA for Surrey-South. “We deserve leadership from John Horgan and the right to know whether we’ll be facing enormous hurdles to get into Vancouver for work or school tomorrow.”
This is just the latest in a long and growing list of labour disputes that have flared up under the watch of John Horgan and the NDP.
“During various labour disputes over the past year, this NDP government has sent a very clear message to British Columbians that they won’t intervene without the blessing of their union donors and party insiders,” concluded Martin. “The Minister of Labour has been missing in action on every strike so far this year and it now seems the NDP’s Parliamentary Secretary for TransLink intends to follow suit while British Columbians are forced to suffer the consequences.”
