Much to celebrate this National Organic Week

VICTORIA (September 13, 2018) – BC Liberal Agriculture Co-Critics Ian Paton and Linda Larson have released the following statement to mark National Organic Week (September 8-16, 2018):

“This week provides a terrific opportunity for British Columbians and all Canadians to reflect on the great work of our organic farmers, ranchers and producers.

“These men and women dedicate themselves to producing high-quality organic goods that are enjoyed in this province and beyond.

“Their contribution to our national economy is impressive. The Canada Organic Trade Association says organic products now make up 2.6 per cent of grocery market sales for food and beverage. According to the association, Canada’s organic food service market was estimated at $555 million in 2017.

“What’s more, the industry is attracting many young farmers which is so important to its continued success.

“Congratulations to Canada’s organic industry on these accomplishments— and in particular, thank you to all B.C. organic goods producers for all the work that you do.”
