KAMLOOPS (January 17, 2019) – Hundreds of local jobs and millions of dollars in economic spin-off have been lost, now that the NDP government has announced it is abandoning its promise to the people of Kamloops to build the new BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) headquarters.
“The government has backtracked and broken its promise to our community,” says Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone. “It’s outrageous that only months ago, Attorney General David Eby reassured all of us that this project was on track, yet has done a complete about-face today.”
Eby, the minister responsible for the BCLC told the media back in July that the new BCLC headquarters “is full speed ahead.” Today, he scrapped as many as 250 good-paying, family-supporting jobs and much-needed building safety upgrades.
“Minister Eby has sent a very clear message to Kamloops, the NDP government’s word means nothing,” adds Peter Milobar, MLA for Kamloops – North Thompson. “This announcement is nothing more than the NDP pulling promised capital and operational dollars out of Kamloops. Which projects will be next on the chopping block?”
