Official Opposition statement on International Women’s Day

VANCOUVER (March 8, 2019) – BC Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson and House Leader Mary Polak released the following statement on International Women’s Day:

“Today we celebrate people around the world who are working to achieve equality, inclusion and balance in society.

“This year’s International Women’s Day theme is Balance for Better. Earlier this week, the BC Liberal Caucus was proud to introduce a Private Member’s Bill that would encourage balance on B.C. payrolls by asking companies with over 50 employees to report on salaries by gender.

“In order to make workplaces and schools safe and respectful we must ensure women are at the table and in influential roles. Here in the BC Legislature, we can set an example. The BC Liberals believe government can lead the way by ensuring greater equality in Cabinet, among Deputy Ministers, in Crown Corporations and Health Authorities, Task Forces and Committees.

“It’s well-past time to make the most of our greatest resource: our people. Our collective efforts are not just for women and girls today, but for future generations. Because all our children should have the same opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
