Statement by Opposition Critic for Mental Health and Addictions

VICTORIA (April 24, 2019) – Opposition Critic for Mental Health and Addictions and North Vancouver-Seymour MLA Jane Thornthwaite has released the following statement:

“Dr. Bonnie Henry’s report, “Stopping the Harm: Decriminalization of People Who Use Drugs in B.C.,” brings the serious personal and societal issue of drug addiction to the forefront.

“More must be done to address both the health and criminal aspects of drug trafficking to bring down the number of illicit drug deaths in our province. We need to establish an adequate continuum of care for drug addicts which includes more treatment beds, more prevention and early intervention in our schools.

“This is a very important conversation that all British Columbians and Canadians should be having.”
