Statement from Andrew Wilkinson on Kristallnacht Anniversary

VICTORIA (November 8, 2018) – Leader of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following statement today for the anniversary of Kristallnacht:

“Tomorrow marks 80 years since Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, when Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues were ransacked and vandalized in a vicious pogrom in Nazi Germany.

“This 80th anniversary is especially poignant, given that it comes less than two weeks after the horrific murder of 11 Jews at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.

“They are on our minds as we commemorate those who lost their lives eight decades ago as a result of the same type of hatred and anti-Semitism that reared its ugly head in Pittsburgh.

“Our hearts go out to the families and friends of all victims of anti-Semitism and we pledge to ensure the everlasting safety and security of the Jewish community here in British Columbia.

“We must stand up and prevent events like the Kristallnacht pogrom and the ensuing Holocaust from ever happening again.

“Never again.”
