VICTORIA (February 13, 2019) – Leader of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following statement today in support of the Moose Hide Campaign’s Provincial Gathering and Day of Fasting:
“Today, we recognize and applaud the important work being done by the Moose Hide Campaign to end violence against First Nations, Metis, and Inuit women and children.
“Now in its ninth year, the campaign brings awareness to the tragic epidemic of physical and sexual violence occurring in our country of which Indigenous women are far more likely to experience than non-Indigenous women. It is important that all men speak out, hold one another accountable, and take the pledge to end gender-based violence.
“Today, members of the BC Liberal Caucus will wear moose hide pins and support our colleagues in all three parties taking part in a day of fasting. Wearing this moose hide signifies our commitment to this noble and important endeavour.
“The BC Liberal Caucus strongly believes in the empowerment of women and the participation of men as vital steps to effectively tackle and end gender-based violence. In doing so, we can make homes and communities across British Columbia safer for everyone.”
