Statement from Andrew Wilkinson on Rosh Hashanah

VICTORIA (September 8, 2018) – Leader of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following statement today for Rosh Hashanah:

“Tomorrow evening, Jewish families across British Columbia will gather at sundown to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, marking the start of the Jewish New Year.

“Rosh Hashanah, beginning on the first day of Tishrei, also marks the start of the High Holidays. This period will see the Jewish community celebrate the New Year followed by days of repentance that conclude on Yom Kippur on September 18th.

“The High Holidays are a time for reflection and renewal to be spent amongst friends and family. Across this province, in homes and synagogues, the Jewish community will gather and take part in traditions that have survived for centuries, outlasting and overcoming devastating horrors and oppression.

“On behalf of the entire BC Liberal Caucus, I want to extend the warmest wishes to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah and my sincerest hope that the year 5779 brings good health, love, and prosperity to all.

“Shanah Tovah Umetukah!”
