Statement from Andrew Wilkinson on the Womens Memorial March

VANCOUVER (February 14, 2020) – Leader of the Official Opposition, Andrew Wilkinson, released the following statement today in support of the annual Womens Memorial Marches across the country.

“Today we join together to honour the lives of missing and murdered women, especially those of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit ancestry.

“The annual Womens Memorial March began here in British Columbia after a horrific murder in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside in 1992. On Valentine’s Day in years since, people have marched to bring attention to the physical and mental violence faced by women throughout the country on a daily basis.

“Each year we gather to raise awareness, remember those lost to violence, and re-affirm our commitment to achieving justice for all missing and murdered women.

“The BC Liberal Caucus strongly believes in the empowerment of women and the participation of men as vital steps to effectively tackle and end gender-based violence. In doing so, we can make homes and communities across British Columbia safer for everyone.”
