Richmond (June 27, 2018) – BC Liberal Critic for Multiculturalism and Richmond North Centre MLA Teresa Wat released the following statement on Canadian Multiculturalism Day:
“Canadian Multiculturalism Day is an opportunity to celebrate our rich diversity and to recognize what makes our country and our province unique, creative and strong. That strength is thanks, in no small part, to the remarkable contributions made by cultural communities to our economy and society.
“As the most ethnically diverse province in Canada, multicultural British Columbia has shaped our character as a people open to different religions, traditions and lifestyles.
“Today gives us an opportunity to understand our rich history and what it means to be Canadian— acceptance, inclusion and diversity. These values are just as important today in a world where xenophobia and nationalism are on the rise.
“It is up to each and every one of us to uphold our commitment to equality and mutual respect.
“Let’s work together to foster an environment where every British Columbian can succeed, regardless of their ethnic background and culture.”
