VANCOUVER (April 3, 2018) – BC Liberal Transportation Critic Jordan Sturdy is applauding the federal government today for honouring the 2017 funding commitment for transportation projects in Metro Vancouver.

“We recognized the incredible importance of public transit infrastructure when we negotiated this deal with the Federal government last year. With over $4 billion in commitments to projects like rapid transit in Surrey, our government signed on to a historic level of funding,” says Sturdy.

The BC Liberal government matched dollar-for-dollar the funding from the Trudeau government in March of 2017 for a total of $4.4 billion in combined commitments.

“It is imperative that transit capabilities grow along with the population expansion in urban centres,” Sturdy added. “It is my hope that the current provincial government will follow our lead and begin to work with the federal government on creating new opportunities for transit and infrastructure funding. Building safe, reliable, and expansive multi-modal transit systems in British Columbia will help connect our communities and ensure livable towns and cities well into the future.”
